Rehabilitation, encompassing essential components such as assistive technology (AT), is a critical yet overlooked facet of Pakistan’s health system. Despite approximately 47 million people facing health conditions that could benefit from rehabilitation, it is inadequately prioritized. This study by Learning, Acting, and Building for Rehabilitation in Health Systems (ReLAB-HS) delves into the socioeconomic and political barriers hindering rehabilitation’s advancement, offering strategic recommendations. Key challenges include a lack of data on rehabilitation needs, poor governance, insufficient workforce capacity, limited access to assistive products, and a general lack of awareness. The call to action proposes evidence-based advocacy, integration into Universal Health Coverage, a national strategic plan, accreditation for rehabilitation professionals, a dedicated budget line, and capacity building at both national and sub-national levels. This comprehensive approach seeks to transform rehabilitation into a prioritized and integrated element of Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.
